
Financial Assistance is Available for Flood Victims
The recent heavy downpours from ex-Tropical Cyclone Koji and the North Queensland Monsoon Trough have caused widespread flooding across several regions in Queensland. The recovery is underway so if you have been impacted, several layers of financial support are available.
1. Immediate Personal Hardship Assistance
These grants are designed to help with essential needs like food, clothing, and medicine in the immediate aftermath of the floods.
- Emergency Hardship Assistance Grant: * Amount: $180 per person, up to $900 for a family of five or more.
- Eligibility: Must live in a defined disaster area and be unable to meet immediate essential needs.
- Essential Services Hardship Assistance:
- Amount: $150 per person, up to $750 for a family of five or more.
- Eligibility: Available if you have lost essential services (electricity, gas, water, or sewerage) for more than five consecutive days.
2. Income Support (Federal Assistance)
The Australian Government provides support for those whose livelihoods have been disrupted.
- Disaster Recovery Allowance (DRA): * Type: A short-term payment (up to 13 weeks) for employees, small business owners, and farmers who can demonstrate a loss of income as a direct result of the floods.

3. Rebuilding and Recovery Grants (Income-Tested)

- Structural Assistance Grant: Up to $80,000 for uninsured owner-occupiers to help repair a home to a safe and habitable condition.
- Essential Services Safety and Reconnection Scheme: Up to $5,000 to help reconnect services like electricity and water. This includes $200 for safety inspections and up to $4,200 for repairs.
4. Support for Small Businesses and Primary Producers
If your business or farm has been impacted, specialized loans and subsidies are available through the Queensland Rural and Industry Development Authority (QRIDA). Disaster Assistance Loans: Up to $250,000 for repairing/replacing assets or livestock. Essential Working Capital Loans: Up to $100,000 to cover operational costs like wages and rent. Freight Subsidies: Up to $5,000 for primary producers to assist with the movement of stock or fodder.
